According to the evidence collected, prior to the settlement of Avieirans in Alhandra, Varinos and Murtoseiros had already established themselves here; the constructions on stilts built by the Avieirans were replaced in the 1980s by residential dwellings, which make up the current fishermen’s neighbourhood. According to information obtained from Alhandra Museum, there were also jetties built on stilts similar to those in Póvoa de Santa Iria.
